More on Wellness

Wellness is the optimal state of health and well-being of individuals and groups. It is the ability of people and communities to reach their fullest potential, both in terms of health and fulfilment of purpose. Most studies of health promotion in older adults focus on a few factors at a time such as exercise and nutrition to reduce frailty, or smoking and alcohol use to reduce cognitive decline.  However, it is more widely acknowledged that health promotion for people aged 55 and older can be much broader, encompassing maintenance and improvement of functional capacity, improvement through self-care, and enhancement of social networks.
